ZOMBIE INTERRUPTUS
Jaycee stepped into the hallway and walked down to the reception area keeping a Lookout for whatever had torn the place apart. She was scared but more curious and Willing to see what happened. As she reached the end of the hall, she saw Melony lying On the floor with her belly tore open and her intestines draped over the desk.
βAre they dead?β Cassandra asked. She was behind Jaycee and scared the piss out of Her.
βMelony is,β Jaycee replied in a hushed voice.
βWhereβs the guy?β
βI donβt know,β Jaycee replied stepping further into the reception area.
βWhat are you doing?β Cassandra asked. βYou want to get killed too?β
βI want to see what happened.β
βIt was a zombie vampire attack, canβt you see?β Cassandra asked.
βIt might have been.β
βNo, it was, look at the door, they broke it off the hinges, who does that?β
Jaycee knew Cassandra was right but didnβt want to believe it. Neither one of them had Ever seen a zombie vampire attack in real life. It wasnβt until recently that the population Had grown to such a size that they had become a commonplace threat. Jaycee turned To head back to the break room when she heard a noise coming from the reception Area.
βWhatβs that?β Cassandra asked.
Jaycee turned back and took a few steps closer to the reception area. When she Reached the doorway she looked left around the corner and saw the businessman lying On the floor and a zombie vampire drinking from his leg. The zombie vampire was grey And misshapen, like a sickly hairless ape with patches of thin hair running down itβs Back. It was hard to think that this being used to be a person.
Jaycee stepped back and pointed to the break room indicating to Cassandra she Needed to back up. Cassandra understood and turned back. Then they both heard a Noise from the break room. It was a chair sliding across the floor. Was it another Coworker? Or was it another zombie vampire? Neither girl knew what to do so they Stood still trying not to bring attention to themselves.
βWhat now?β Cassandra whispered.
βWait till they leave,β Jaycee replied in a whisper.
βWhat do we do if they attack us?β
βBe quiet!β Jaycee whispered back.
For the next half hour the girls sat quiet in the hallway waiting for the noises to stop,
Once quiet, the girls slowly and quietly crawled into the reception area and peeked Around the corner to see if the zombie vampires left. There was no sign of them, just the Two bodies they left behind. And they were starting to turn.
βDo you see that?β Cassandra asked.
Jaycee looked at the businessman and saw that he was ashen grey and starting to Move. Neither girl knew how long it took for a zombie vampire to form from a freshly Killed human, but they were watching the process live.
βThatβs so gross,β Cassandra said.
βLook at Melony,β Jaycee said.
Both girls looked as Melonyβs intestines began to curl back into her body, like a snake With a mind of its own.
βI think Iβm going to throw up,β Cassandra said.
βWhat should we do?β Jaycee asked.
βWhat do you mean?β
βWe can stop this before they change all the way.β
βHow?β
βCut them up, burn them, hell I donβt know,β Jaycee replied.
βCut them with what?β Cassandra asked.
βGo in the break room and see if there are any knives in the drawers.β
βI know there are plastic forks, but Iβm pretty sure there arenβt any metal knives,β
Cassandra replied.
βJust go look, if you canβt find a knife, find something we can use to bash their heads in With, there must be something.β
βWhat are you going to do?β
βIβll check in the reception area, maybe I can find something to use.β
Cassandra walked back to the break room and Jaycee walked into the reception area.
Neither girl knew how long they had before both victims turned into zombie vampires, But from the condition of the bodies, it didnβt look like it would take long. Then Cassandra ran back with a metal knife in her hand. βLook, I found one.β
βWhere was it?β Jaycee asked.
βIn the drawer, next to the plastic forks.β
βGood, now go over there and cut his head off,β Jaycee said a she looked at the businessman lying on the floor.
βNo, you do it,β Cassandra replied.
βFine,β Jaycee said and took the knife from Cassandra. Jayce stepped over to the man who was now convulsing and shedding hair all over the floor. βCan you at least hold his legs still?β
Cassandra moved in and leaned down holding the man's legs to the floor. Once his body was stilled, Jaycee took the knife to his throat and sawed back and forth. The half man half zombie vampire squirmed but didnβt open his eyes. It seemed like they had got to him in time. With a few well-placed cuts, Jaycee was down to his vertebrae where she had a difficult time getting through, but with persistence, she made it all the way and separated the manβs head from his neck. Now it was onto Melony.
Jaycee turned to take on Melony and noticed she was gone. She scanned the room and looked out the window to see if she ran out the front door. Nothing. Then she heard Cassandra scream and spun around to see Melony, now grey and hairless pulling Cassandra back down the hallway towards the break room. Melony used her inch long claw like fingernails to dig into Cassandraβs leg and pull her along.
Jaycee stood up and ran down the hall with the knife in her hand. She stepped around Cassandra and sunk the knife into Melonyβs chest and pushed her away trying to get her to let go of Cassandra. Instead, Melony lunged at Jaycee and scratched her neck with the fingernails on her left hand. Cassandra managed to kick herself free of Melonyβs grasp and scoot herself back down the hall to the reception area where she was met by two men in military style police armor carrying automatic rifles.
βDown there!β Cassandra yelled pointing down the hall.
The two men entered the hall and took aim at Melony who now had Jaycee pinned up against the break room door. One of the armed policemen blasted a single shot to Melonyβs head that knocked her to the side. Getting her attention, Melony pushed Jaycee towards the police into the hall and slammed the break room door shut.
βGet over here!β the policeman yelled to Jaycee. Without hesitation, Jaycee stumbled back towards the reception area and around the two policemen who were now trying to kick down the break room door. With a few well-placed kicks and a few gunshots to the lock, the door opened and the men entered with their rifles in the ready position.
Pinned up against the counter, Melony scrambled to find a way out of the room but couldn't find one. The two police officers opened fire and shot until she was motionless on the floor. Once Melony was dead, the police returned to the reception area and did a quick scan. βAre there anymore?β the policeman asked.
βYes, that guy.β Jaycee said as she pointed to the headless man lying on the floor.
βAny workers?β
Jaycee knew there were two other girls working the booths tonight, but hadnβt seen Them for hours. She walked over to the reception desk and spun the monitor around so She could see the camera view of the booths. They were all empty. βThey left,β she said.
βYou two need to leave, thereβs a group of zombie vampires in this area weβre trying Take down.β
βNo shit,β Cassandra said. βSince when do they come out and attack like this? I thought They hid in old buildings and waited for people to walk by.β
βI donβt know, itβs new to us. Somethingβs changed,β the officer replied. βBut as long as Theyβre out on the streets, you need to get home.β
βIf we leave, theyβll find us.β
βDo you have a car?β
βYes.β
βWe can escort you to your car, you should be alright once inside, just lock your doors,β
The officer said.
Then a gunshot rang out from outside the building.
βWhat the fuck was that?β Cassandra asked.
βWe have officers out patrolling the area, they might have come across a zombie Vampire,β the officer replied.
βHow many are there?β
βWe think probably ten or twelve. Itβs hard to tell, we canβt use our infrared on them, and They donβt put out a heat signature. Now letβs get you to your car. Where are you
Parked?β
βIn the back,β Jaycee said.
βBoth of you?β
βI didnβt drive,β Cassandra said, βMy boyfriend drops me off.β
βIβll take you home,β Jaycee said and led the group to the back door. Once outside the Lead policeman checked the area and allowed the others to follow. Jaycee led them to
Her car and she and Cassandra got inside.
βDrive straight home, this area is off limits to the regular public,β the officer said.
Jaycee nodded in agreement and drove the car down the alley and into the street Heading for home.
βNow what?β Cassandra asked.
βWhat do you mean?β Jaycee replied.
βI donβt know, Iβm cut, bleeding and scared. I never thought those fucking zombie Vampires would ever come after me. I thought I was safe at work.β
βYeah, I know what you mean. I never thought I was safe, but it wasnβt like we were Walking down a dark alley either. He said something changed, I wonder what it was.β
βTheyβre probably starving, I heard on the news that their population has increased a lot. They probably went through all the localβs, now they have to expand.β
βExpand my ass, they need to hire more cops and get this shit taken care of,β Jaycee Said. βGive me a gun, Iβll exterminate the fuckers.β
βYou want to work for the vampire agency?β Cassandra asked.
βThose guys protect vampires, why would I do that?β
βThose guys were agency, donβt you ever read the paper? The agency is doing double Duty, they protect vampires from poachers and kill off the zombie vampires, they said They were hiring. You donβt have a job anymore.β
βI donβt have a bachelorβs degree either,β Jaycee replied.
βYou donβt have to have one anymore, remember? They said theyβre so desperate Theyβre waiving the requirement.β
βI didnβt know you were so well read,β Jaycee said.
βI do more than suck dick all day,β Cassandra replied. βIβm thinking about applying
Myself.β
βYou? Shoot a gun?β Jaycee said with a laugh. βYouβre too much of a girly girl.β
βLike youβve ever shot a gun,β Cassandra replied.
βI grew up on a farm. Iβve been around guns all my life.β
